The South Seattle College Foundation is seeking a talented mission-driven leader and administrator to join our team!
Employment Type: Long-term independent contractor position with flexible schedule up to 30 hours per week. Primarily remote, with weekly in-person donor, community, and/or South Seattle College campus meetings in Seattle.
Overview: The South Seattle College Foundation Director provides strategic leadership and day-to-day administration for the South Seattle College Foundation. In partnership with the all-volunteer board, the Director advances the Foundation’s mission through donor and community engagement, grants and scholarship programs, and effective financial and administrative management. The Director represents the Foundation to donors, stakeholders, and community members, and serves as the primary liaison with South Seattle College. To ensure the Foundation’s success, the Director works closely with the Board Chair and two part-time independent contract staff—the Accountant and the Scholarship Liaison.
Key Responsibilities:
- Philanthropic strategy: Collaborate with the Foundation board to define and refine short- and long-term goals and outcomes that align with the mission. Establish processes to track progress and evaluate effectiveness. Collect and report on data to internal and external stakeholders.
- Board Support: Work with board leadership to facilitate board meetings, develop agendas, prepare materials, manage logistics, take minutes, and follow up on action items. Cultivate relationships with board members to foster engagement. Support committee work as needed.
- Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Advance the Foundation’s mission by strengthening relationships with community members, donors, and stakeholders. Engage prospective donors, acknowledge gifts and scholarships awards, and communicate with donors routinely. Lead and support fundraising initiatives and events.
- Program Support: Manage and support College Project Grants, Faculty Grants, and Scholarships in collaboration with the board. Coordinate grant reviews and approvals, provide evaluation criteria. Meet with College representatives and program leads to monitor grant awards and to ensure accountability. Support the Scholarship Chair, Accountant, and College Scholarship Liaison in administering the SSCF scholarship program.
- Administration: Process all donations and maintain donor records in the Foundation’s donor management software. Administer a third-party scholarship grant program, collect scholarship award data from Washington State colleges and report to funder. Manage the Foundation’s operations budget. Support the Accountant with audits, donor and expense records, and related needs. Build and streamline processes as needed.
- Communication and Team Support: Serve as the primary contact for inquiries from donors, students, college personnel, and the community. Serve as a liaison to South Seattle College personnel to ensure smooth communication and collaboration. Maintain the Foundation’s website ensuring all information is current and accurate. Meet regularly with Board Chair, Accountant, and Scholarship Liaison.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 3- 5 years experience in nonprofit management or related field.
- Experience working with boards of directors and managing donor relations.
- Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, board members, college staff, and community members.
- Understanding of nonprofit governance and donor stewardship.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and project coordination skills.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient with word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
- Excellent attention to detail, accurate and thorough.

- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in higher education or with community colleges.

Compensation: $60 – $80 per hour to start, based on qualifications and experience. This is an Independent Contractor position.
